Do I need to cleanse my crystals?

If you are using your stones for healing, then yes, you definitely need to cleanse them. Some people enjoy having crystals around and don’t use them for anything else than home decor. If this is your case, you do not really need to cleanse them. But a good clean with water could be both beneficial to remove dust and the bad vibes from your minerals.

Why do I need to cleanse crystals?

Many people use crystals to soothe their mind, body, and soul because they are said to absorb energies. So, after a while, they need to be cleansed to clean them from any negativity they have absorbed from you and their environment. Cleansing crystals is a way to refresh them and renew their energy.

How often should I cleanse my crystals?

How often you want to cleanse your gemstones is really up to you. If you use them for healing sessions, you can cleanse them weekly. Also, you can be intuitive about this. If you find them looking dull, greasy or sticky, it’s time to cleanse them.

I personally like to cleanse mine once or twice a month, before I set my intentions.

Also, you should always cleanse your crystals as soon as you get them. Because while they’ve been sitting on a shelf, they’ve already absorbed energy from their environment and anyone who has handled them before you.

How to cleanse crystals: the complete guide

There are many different ways you can cleanse your gemstones. If you are unsure of how you want to do it, try several different ways and see what works best for you. Below, I have listed 10 ways to cleanse crystals.

Sage

Sage is known for its many healing properties. For this reason, smudging crystals with sage is one of the most effective ways to cleanse them. All you have to do is hold your crystals in the smoke to cleanse the stored negative energies. I personally use white sage smudge sticks to cleanse my crystals and my home.

Crystal clusters

Some crystals have the ability to cleanse other crystals. Clear Quartz, Amethyst and Selenite are some of them. Crystal clusters can absorb the energies contained within other gemstones and neutralize bad vibrations. You can effectively cleanse your crystals and energize them at the same time with crystal clusters.

Selenite does not need cleansing. To clean your gemstones with Selenite, simply place your crystal over your Selenite. If you are using Selenite wands, you can put all your crystals in a box with Selenite and program your wand to cleanse all crystals.

Sunlight or Moonlight

Sunlight and moonlight can both charge and cleanse your gemstones. However, some stones such as Amethyst or Rose Quartz are susceptible to discoloration under the sun. So do your research before you put your stones out.

I like to set my crystals out on a full moon night and bring them in before noon the next day. This way, they bathe both in sun and moonlight. If you don’t have an outdoor area, you can place your stones on a windowsill. Also, don’t forget to check the forecast for rain before you put your crystals outside, you wouldn’t want to mess up your stones.

You can cleanse and charge your crystals under any moon, but the full moon is the best time to do it.

Salt

Salt has many healing properties. Many people use it as an antiseptic, for detoxifying or cleansing. To cleanse your crystals with salt, fill a large bowl with sea salt or Himalayan pink salt and bury your gemstones in. You can leave them here for 24 hours and wait for the salt to work its magic.

Note that some crystals don’t handle salt exposure really well. In fact, salt can be damaging to certain gemstones. So, don’t forget to research which stones can be cleansed with salt before using this method.

Once you finished cleansing your crystals with the salt, throw it away. You can’t use this salt for cooking.

Running water

Cleansing your crystals with water is a great way to physically and energetically cleanse them. You can use tap water, bottled water, rain, river or ocean water. Whatever water source you choose, make sure your stone is completely submerged. Dry well when complete.

As far as I’m concerned, I like to soak my crystals in a bowl of river or ocean water.

But remember, some crystals should never get wet. This cleansing technique is best for hard stones such as Amethyst or Quartz, which can handle water exposure. You can learn more about what crystals can’t get wet here.

Salt water

If you want to combine the benefits of salt and water, you can put your crystals in a salt water bath. It is one of the easiest ways to cleanse your gemstones.

You can soak your crystals in water with a pinch of salt for 24 hours. You can also collect a bowl of ocean water if you prefer. Don’t forget to rinse your crystals after the salt bath and pat dry completely.

I already mentioned that salt isn’t good for all stones. Stones that are soft or porous (Selenite, Malachite…) will not react well to salt. Use this method for hard stones only.

Earth

After all, the earth is giving us crystals, so what’s best than a bit of nature to restore their energies.

Like sunlight and moonlight, earth can charge and cleanse your crystals. If you have a garden, you can bury your crystals in the ground for a day. They will be reenergized with earthy energy and cleaned from the negative vibes they accumulated.

Fire

You can use fire to cleanse your crystals. All you have to do is rotate them 7 times over a candle flame. Direct fire will immediately burn away all the negative energies.

If you don’t want to use fire, you can use smoke to cleanse your gemstones. The most popular smudging tools are incense, sage, and palo santo. I mentioned earlier I like to smudge my stones with sage. But you can smudge your crystals with any bundle of herbs. This method is great because you can cleanse your stones and purify your home at the same time.

For this method, all you have to do is place your smudging tool in a fireproof dish and let the smoke cleanse your crystals.

Visualization

You can actually cleanse your gemstones with the power of your mind. One of the best ways to do that is to meditate with your crystals.

For this method, simply get into a meditative state, and hold your crystal in your hands. Then, visualize a bright white light enveloping your gemstone. Alternatively, you can blow on your crystal. Imagine you are blowing a bright stream of white light. Do this until your feel your gemstone is shiny.

This method is great for those who practice meditation often. However, it’s not the best if you have a big batch of stones to cleanse as it can be tiring.

Sound cleansing

You can use the vibrations and the sound of a singing bowl to cleanse your crystals. All you have to do is place your crystals around the bowl, not inside, and strike the side of the bowl. Repeat as necessary.

Bottom line

As you can see, there are many different ways we can cleanse our crystals. I personally like to smudge them before recharging them under the moonlight on a full moon.

After cleansing your crystals, you can program them and set new intentions. How do you cleanse your crystals? Let me know in the comments below!

How To Charge Crystals For Healing

Crystals are believed to hold healing vibrations which many of us use to bring luck, ease worries or meditate. In this post, I answer all your questions about charging crystals and give you tips on how to charge crystals for healing.

Charging vs cleansing crystals

For many people, charging and cleansing crystals is the same thing. now, in my experience, these are two different things.

I charge my crystals when I want to renew their energy and give them a boost. While cleansing is more a way to purify my crystals and remove the negative energies they have absorbed.

Both cleansing and charging crystals are good for them, so make sure you do both. Especially if you use your crystals often or have used them for a difficult healing session.

Why do you charge crystals?

Because they absorb negative energies and vibrations, crystals need to be charged and cleansed from time to time. For example, If you want to use your crystals for a healing session, you will need to charge them first.

Charging crystals is a way to refresh them and amplify their positive vibes. Just like you need to rest and restore your energies after a long week of work, crystals are the same. When you charge your crystals, you replenish their energy fully. Don’t forget to cleanse your stone before you charge it.

If you do not believe in the metaphysical side of crystals, you don’t have to charge them. Many of my customers just wear or have crystals because they find them pretty!

How often should I charge my crystals?

If you use your crystals often, for healing sessions, for example, you should charge them at least once a month. You can charge them more often if you want to. Another option is to charge them whenever you cleanse them, this way they are clean and fully ready for another healing session!

Also, many crystal lovers like to put their crystals out every full moon because it is a powerful lunar phase.

How long do crystals stay charged?

There is no way of saying how long crystals stay charged. I believe it depends on how often you use them and what you use them for. For example, a crystal that is touched and used every day won’t stay charged as long as a crystal that stays on your desk and doesn’t get used.

Can you charge crystals through a window?

You crystals don’t have to be directly in the moonlight or sunlight to charge. The truth is, they can benefit from the energy of the moon or sun even if they are behind a window.

Depending on where you live, it is not always possible to leave your crystals outside. When I lived in Montreal, I couldn’t put my crystals outside in winter because it was way too cold. So, I used to put them on the window sill every full moon to charge them through the window.

How to charge crystals

There are many ways to charge crystals and stones. Just choose a way that works best for you and your crystals. Here are some of my favorite ways to replenish the energy of your crystals.

Sunlight

You can charge crystals using the rays the sun or the moon. The light is very energizing and will fill your crystals with energy. I personally prefer charging my crystals under the moon because they are plenty of crystals than can’t ben under the sun. Some of them fade or brittle when exposed to sunlight. You can find a complete list of crystals that can’t be in the sun here

However, if you want to charge your crystals in the sun, place them in a spot where they will receive direct sunlight for about 24 hours.

Moonlight

One of the best times to charge your crystals is on a new or full moon. During a new moon and full moon cycles, the moon and planetary energy are amplified.

You can still charge your crystals under moonlight if it’s a cloudy or rainy day. All you have to do is place your crystals in a bowl and let them bask under the light for the night.

Bury them in the ground

If you want to give your crystal earth energy, you can bury it in the soil for 14 hours. This technique especially benefits earthy crystals that are black, brown or green.

If you choose to bury your crystal in the ground don’t forget to put a marker so that you don’t know where it is.

crystal mercy on redouble

Place your crystals in a flower pot

Alternatively, you can put your crystals in a healthy garden or flower pot. Your crystal will charge with the energy of the plants.

Use other crystals

You can also charge your crystals with other crystals. To do that, you just need to put the crystal you wish to charge on top of another crystal.

Another great way to do that is to create a circle with your crystals and place the crystal that needs energy in the center of your circle.

Reiki and sound

If you’re into reiki you might want to reiki charge your crystals. You can also use sounds bowls to infuse your crystals with positive energies.

Bottom line

There is no best way to charge your crystals. Whichever way you decide to do it, remember to cleanse them before. Have you ever charged your crystals? Let me know in the comments below!

The Best Places To Buy Crystals Online

As a crystal lover and jewelry maker, people often ask me for the best places to buy crystals online. I have to buy crystals all the time to make my jewelry, so I can honestly say I have purchased from many online shops.

I’ve compiled a list of trusted vendors who offer quality crystals at reasonable prices. But first, I’ll give you my best tips to buy crystals online.

Is it safe to buy crystals online?

Most people will tell you that buying crystals online isn’t the best option. First, because it is harder to tell if a crystal is genuine or fake, and also because you can’t feel its energy. But, if like me, you don’t live near a crystal shop, then buying online is most probably your best option. I think you can still see the beauty of crystals online, and you can also find the one that is meant to be with you.

It is relatively safe to buy crystals online, and you shouldn’t go paranoid over getting a fake crystal. Yes, some retailers do sell fake, man-made crystals, but not all of them. It is always a good idea to know what you’re looking for before purchasing crystals online and to be a bit educated about them. This way, you can avoid getting something you didn’t want, like heat-treated, dyed, or man-made crystals.

Tips for buying crystals online

I buy almost all my crystals online, and I always look at the same things to make sure I’m buying a genuine crystal from a reputable seller. Here are my best tips:

1. Look at the pictures and description

Always make sure the crystal you want to purchase is shown in several angles on the pictures. Also, the pictures should be clear and show all the details of the stone. The description should mention the size of the crystal, its origin, and price. The downside of online shops is that sometimes you can’t choose the exact stone you want. So, you just receive something similar to the pictures. Always double-check, especially when buying a larger crystal.

2. Identify the crystal you want

That’s it, you’ve found the crystal of your dreams! Now, identify it and use a crystal book if needed. Some sellers will list the crystal properties on their website, but once again I would advise using a trusted crystal book to double-check. Most sellers either make mistakes or simply give inaccurate information.

3. Communicate with the seller

If you have questions, or doubts about your purchase, you should definitely communicate with the seller. It’ll also give you an idea of how serious the website is. If the seller takes several days to answer or isn’t helpful at all, I wouldn’t purchase there.

4. Check the shop’s social media presence

Another great way to know if a shop is active and updated is to check social media. I always make sure the shop I’m buying from either has recent reviews or is active online.

5. Always read the reviews

Reviews are a very important criteria for me. I always read several reviews before I buy. First, because I want to be sure I will receive the goods, and second because I want to receive exactly what I bought. Reading reviews is a great way to know more about the shipping times, packaging and quality of the product.

6. Notice the shipping charges

If you’re from outside of the USA, I strongly recommend looking closely at the shipping charges. They can be surprisingly high sometimes. And, unfortunately, I’ve noticed that more sellers are pushing the prices up so they can actually make money off the shipping charge. Also, most country’s have limits on imports, which means that if you buy in bulk, you could pay extra when you receive your parcel.

The best places to buy crystals online

Most of the shops I recommend in this post are on Etsy. It is a reputable and safe platform that I like to use. I have bought from most of these shops, and have been happy with my purchases. Also, you might find that a couple of sellers I mention in this list offer crystals that are a bit overpriced, but they made it to the list because they have stunning or unique products. So, here is a list of the best places to buy crystals online:

Exquisite Crystals: My number 1 choice! This US-based company has been selling crystals since 1999. They offer a wide range of raw and polished crystals in different sizes and shapes, including spheres, wands, and bowls. They receive new crystals almost every day and update the shop very regularly. I have gotten all my most precious crystals from this shop. If you’re looking for genuine and unique crystals and minerals, Exquisite Crystals is your best option.

Spirit Nectar: I bought many crystals from Spirit Nectar, and I’m never disappointed. She is a very popular seller on Etsy and Instagram. This shop has a wide range of crystal points, spheres, palm stones and more. Plus, $1 of each crystal sold is donated to a charity in Madagascar.

I Love Lotus: with over 2,500 items in the shop, I Love Lotus offers geodes, clusters, spheres, carved crystals, and even crystal jewelry. They have a lot of different stones and are reasonably priced.

Moonchild Minerals: I love Moonchild Minerals because it has a range of beautiful Aura Quartz including spheres, points, and clusters. But she has many other crystals available. Most of the time, you can choose the exact crystal you want from the picture.

New Moon Beginnings: New Moon Beginnings is a popular Etsy shop. She sells healing crystals, aromatherapy and energy products. Whether you want to grab a new crystal, sage sticks, or crystal jewelry, new moon beginnings has what you’re looking for.

Midnight Aura Crystals: This is the best shop for Aura Quartz lovers. In fact, Midnight Aura Crystals sells the most beautiful aura/angel aura quartz you’ll ever see, including Aura Amethyst. I love this shop, it’s so magical!

Stone And Spirit Shop: Another magical shop filled with stunning crystals. Stone And Spirit Shop is popular for its beautiful aura quartz moons and stars which are gorgeous for jewelry making.

Mandala Gems: Mandala Gems sells ethically sourced crystals. She has many gorgeous and unique crystals that any collector would love to have. She even sells crystal skincare, including a rose quartz clay mask. If you’re looking for unique gifts, I recommend this shop.

All That Shimmerzz: All That Shimmerzz also has a wide variety of crystals on offer. Check out the carved crystals, they are awesome. Especially the ones that are carved like animals. You’ll find dogs, cats, deers, and more.

Sage Goddess: Sage Goddess is a very reputable crystal shop. Palm stones, pyramids, spheres, wands, Sage Goddess has everything you could ever want. I find her prices to be reasonable, and the whole website is actually super interesting if you are into the metaphysical side of things.

The best places to buy cabochons for jewelry making

Gemstone World UK: Gemstone World UK specializes in small cabochons for jewelry making. They also have pretty interesting specimens of raw moonstone and labradorite. I bought from this shop and wasn’t disappointed with the service or the quality of their stone. I definitely recommend buying from them, especially if you’re in Europe and want to get your stones quickly.

The Rainbow Gems: I’m a big fan of crystal shops from India, and have bought from many including this one. This shop sells labradorite, moonstone, amethyst, jasper, chrysocolla, malachite and more. The Rainbow Gems is excellent, and the prices are more than fair.

Gemstone Point: Another great seller from India. This shop has more variety than the one I mentioned above. Gemstone Point is truly one of the best if you want unique cabochons for jewelry making. They even offer free drill service and free shipping on orders over $30.

YGNSHOP: I haven’t bought from this shop yet, but I definitely intend too. I’m really attracted to labradorite – blue ones, purple ones, carved ones! YGNSHOP has excellent reviews so you can buy with confidence.

Phoenix Rising Gem Shop: Phoenix Rising Gem Shop sells cabochons on Instagram. This account is super popular on the platform because their cabochons are truly unique and fantastic. I have often wanted to buy from them, but their products always disappear in a heartbeat. Hopefully one day I’ll get one of their potion bottle cabochons.

AK Gems Creations: This shop sells the cheapest (and best) cabochons on Etsy. You can get stunning blue labradorite cabochon for as little as $2. Also, AK Gems Creations has the most beautiful larimar pieces!

Bijoux Shope: I ordered from this shop several times already, and I’m never disappointed. The service is fast, the quality perfect and the prices reasonable. You’ll find all sorts of cabochons in Bijoux Shope.

Nayra Gems: Another beautiful shop located in India. Check out the unique coral fossil cabochons, and the beautiful mookaite jasper. Nayra Gems is reasonably priced, although the larimar is a tad bit expensive.

Websites I don’t recommend for buying crystals

There are a few places on the world wide web I definitely don’t recommend buying your crystals from, especially if you want genuine ones. For instance, sellers who sell on big popular e-commerce platforms will most likely sell fake crystals. I know some people buy from these websites, but I wouldn’t personally recommend it especially since most sellers are from China.

Also, I’ve heard of many people buying directly on social media from random people. Do not buy from someone you’ve never heard of, especially if they don’t have a website or online shop on a reputable platform. You could end up being scammed.

Bottom line

There are many great online shops where you can buy crystals. The best way to make sure you’re buying from a reputable seller is to read the reviews, make sure the pictures are clear and check the descriptions. I hope you liked my list of the best places to buy crystals online! Have you ever bought crystals online? Let me know in the comments below!
